Elusive

On 10. Sept. 2024 at 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. CEST Wolfgang Zurborn and Nicole Keller will each create a photo book design under the title ‘Elusive’.

The Editing Challenge of the German Photographic Academy will take place online. Be there live via ZOOM or Facebook. The recording will be published later as a video.

The English word ‘elusive’ means: elusive, difficult to grasp, deceptive, unbelievable

A plant suddenly appears to be a person, a woman seems to have a rectangular shadow head, a shadow arm is missing the rest of its body, a bluish blurred smartphone overtakes a person dressed in black in front of colourful poster remnants, green hair is followed with longing glances by hairless mannequins dressed in green.

Neither AI nor a digital collage technique is at work here, but merely my gaze, trained over many years, through the camera viewfinder.

A fleeting, difficult to comprehend, deceptively unbelievable intermediate world casts a photographic spell over me, inviting me to make it visible. Like a voice from off-screen, such enigmatic images appear to me in front of the camera, which I cannot escape, which stimulate my imagination and which I bring together from other series in this cycle of works ‘elusive’, adding a further dimension.

The much-quoted saying ‘there is no planet B’ may inspire you to reflect on this human alternative to nature shown in my work when viewing these pictures.
